OK, I had no idea what to expect. All you hear (or think) about is boys and girls "Gone Wild." IT WAS NOT LIKE THAT AT ALL ! Don't get me wrong, if that is what you WANT to find - you will find it. However, my first experience was filled with laughter, joy, and a whole lot of beads SMACKIN' ME IN THE DA FACE! But, my family had a blast and the time we shared together was incredible. 1. Mardi Gras is more than Bourbon Street. Umm, everyone has not lost their minds. There are wholesome activities for everyone. 2. There are no strangers at Mardi Gras! Everyone you meet is instant family. It's high fives and smiles all day long. I met so many people and was treated like a part of the family. 3. You must keep your hands up! I learned this the hard way. Parade floats have "throws," which are objects (like beads) they THROW into the crowd. Well wouldn't you know it, I was looking in another direction "SMACK" right in the face. Please keep your hands up!

4. They celebrate first timers. Never been to a Mardi Gras? You will be showered with gifts from everyone. I mean, wow, the love given to newbies...its unbelievable! 5. The kids are rockstars! My kids were getting teddy bears, footballs, decorated coconuts, hola hoops, hats, and beads launched in their direction from everywhere. I thought Toys R Us was playing a practical joke. It was absolutely insane! Our first Mardi Gras was great! We laughed, stood in amazement, and enjoyed the biggest block party in the world.
